In the 1970s, during the height of political corruption, Gangnam, the southern part of Seoul is starting to be transformed into a developed area. Childhood friends Jong-dae and Yong-ki struggle to get by, until their shanty homes are demolished by local thugs. Desperate for cash, they get involved in violent political clashes, and are separated during one of the skirmishes. Three years later, Jong-dae lives as an honest man with former gang leader Kil-su. Meanwhile, Yong-ki has joined Seoul's most powerful criminal organization, the Myeongdong-pa. As a gangster, Yong-ki is entangled in a high-stakes battle over land in Gangnam, all in the name of putting together secret presidential election funds that drive up the value of the city. As the gangs fight over the rights to various plots of land, Yong-ki is captured and interrogated by a rival gang.

Starring Korea's biggest superstar, Lee Min Ho, GANGNAM BLUES opens next week exclusively in SM Cinemas. A Sine Asia presentation.

[27-02-2015] Lee Min Ho says he'll come back in a drama in the second half of 2015

Lee Min Ho's agency made a new announcement on February 26, and it means a mixture of good news and bad news for his fans. Here's why.

A Starhous Entertainment representative said on February 26 that although it was originally planned (for Lee Min Ho) to do a film mid-year and a drama in the second half of this year, there is now a change.

He further explained, "Although things do not work as planned all the time, we're in the middle of process finding projects according to the plan. It's already March and those projects starting in mid-year have settled down, so it'll be hard for him to come back in the mid-year. So we're looking into the projects he can come back in the second half of the year".

On the same day, February 26, Lee Min Ho attended Samsonite Red's special event, “RED SAY Talk Concert with Lee Min Ho,” and said, "I want to act in a film, but haven’t found one that immediately felt like ‘the one.’ But I still want to do movies. Instead, it’s more likely that I’ll make my comeback with a drama in the latter half of the year. This year, I hope to help restore your energy levels with a good drama.”

Okay, this is a further update from the last time I wrote about his plans for 2015 and surmised that he would not be going to his military service this year. The "bad" news is that there won't be another movie, but the good news is that he will come back with a drama series in the second half of the year, hopefully not too late in the year.

Another good reminder is what Lee Min Ho said in a prior interview, "... I want to play a person who is unemployed in their 20s. For a movie, I would like to be in a big-scale film made for entertainment. A love story with a good message would be okay too."

That's better than good news when there'll be another romantic drama from Lee Min Ho. But here's a cautionary observation from me: In the past, we've heard that he had over 100 scripts to consider. Let's hope he can find a great script in the pile and go for it. If he can't settle on a project, then he might as well go and finish his military service pronto.
